Hi, I'm Darren

I started out in software, with a degree in Computer Engineering and years spent writing code for a living. Teaching began on the side and slowly took over, because I kept meeting the same person: someone smart and experienced whose English was fine on paper but who went quiet in the meetings that mattered.

More than 15,000 hours of lessons later, that is still who I teach. My students have included a Chief of Staff at Mercedes-AMG, a Head of Plants at Blackwave, CPAs at Deloitte, and customer success managers at LinkedIn in France. Some paid their own way; many were sent by their companies. The engineering background still earns its keep, because when your group runs an incident postmortem, I know what a real one sounds like.

Most of the people I work with already speak well. They passed the tests, they read the docs, they write fine. What they want is to sound like their competent selves when it counts: defending a design decision, walking a room through an incident, holding their ground on a difficult client call. That gap does not close by studying more grammar. It closes by running the real situation, out loud, with someone who understands the context and tells you the truth about how you came across.

I can slow right down for someone who needs it, and I can keep pace with a fast C1 speaker who just wants to be sharper. What I will not do is put a beginner in a room with advanced speakers and let both of them have a bad time. That is why every group has a level, and why I tell you honestly if a group is a stretch before you join.
